CARS2012

The 26th Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery (CARS) International Congress and Exhibition was held in Pisa, Italy, on June 27-30, 2012 (http://www.cars-int.org/). Two software applications developed on GIMIAS were presented at the congress.


The abstract A software application for three-dimensional visualization and quantification of scars and conducting channels based on pre-procedure CE-MRI in patients with ventricular tachycardia [1], was presented at the Cardiovascular Imaging (CVI) VTPlanningMeshsession. A software application able to provide support to cardiac electrophysiologists for the planning and guidance of catheter ablation in patients with scar-related ventricular tachycardia (VT) was developed using GIMIAS and is currently being evaluated by the Arrhythmias Section team of the Cardiology Department of the Hospital Clinic i Provincial de Barcelona. The modules that build the application and the preliminary results obtained in clinical research use were presented.

The abstract Angiolab: a software tool for endovascular treatment planning of cerebral aneurysms [2], was presented at the Computer Assisted Neurosurgery (CANS) session. AngioLab, a software platform for image-based quantificationAngioLabWorkflow and treatment planning of intracranial aneurysms, was developed using GIMIAS and evaluated by neurointerventionists and neurosurgeons during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th edition of the European Society for Minimally Invasive VPHShare Neurovascular Treatment (ESMINT) Teaching Course, held in December 2009, 2010 and 2011 in Barcelona, Spain. All modules included in AngioLab  have been presented, together with the ongoing activities, in the context of the VPH-Share European project ( www.vphshare.org ), for their deployment as atomic services in the Cloud, for an easy sharing of results, knowledge and technologies among scientists.
