Visualization and processing medical imaging tool

This hands-on workshop may be of interest for research groups working on biomedical image computing and simulation problems. GIMIAS provides a set of visualization and processing features commonly used in several biomedical domains like cardiology, angiology or neuroimaging.

This workshop is organized by CISTIB (Center for Computational and Information Technologies in Biomedicine - www.cistib.upf.edu) in Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona and the University of Sheffield.

GIMIAS it's an Open Source Framework that allows the visualization and processing of medical data, ready to be used in clinical environment.
In the workshop you will be able to learn or to practice:

  • Clinical workflow navigation: GIMIAS has the possibility to create, edit and use clinical workflows. A GIMIAS Workflow is a way to organize the processing steps and provide a simplified navigation to the end user from the initial step to the final step.
  • Multimodal 2D and 3D image interactive visualization: The default working area provides basic functionalities for visualization and interaction with images, volumes and meshes. It has an Orthoslice view of 3D + t images, multiSlice view, volume rendering, multiplanar visualization, landmarks positioning and measurements.
  • Manual segmentation and quantification: Manual segmentation allows you to manually draw one or more regions of interest (ROIs) over an image, compute statistics of image intensity values in the region and create a mesh from the contours of the region of interest.
  • Basic surface mesh manipulation and image processing: The Mesh Editor plug-in provides tools for mesh editing, including refinement, cutting, hole filling, volumetric mesh generation, etc. This plug-in adds mainly Processing widgets that are available through the Tools Menu.
  • Signal viewer: The signal viewer plug-in provides a multidimensional signal viewer and exploration module. It allows viewing signals with multiple channels like ECG or EEG, navigating through the signal synchronized with image data and adding annotations.

The participants will choose 2 of the 3 workshops that are available on the GIMIAS web site: http://www.gimias.org/download/tutorials. During the workshop, two assistants will solve the questions that arise during the sessions.
